Operation Christmas Child: How You Can Make a Difference this Christmas
As Christmas approaches, we are reminded of the joy of giving. This year, we invite you to participate in Operation Christmas Child, a heartwarming initiative that delivers shoeboxes filled with gifts to children in need around the world. Through your generosity, you can share the love, hope, and joy of the season with a child who may have never received a gift before.
Who Are We Packing For?
The shoeboxes are distributed to children across three age groups:
Ages 2-4
Ages 5-9
Ages 10-14
Each child has unique needs and interests, so consider their age group when selecting your items!
What Can You Include in the Shoebox?
Here’s a guide to help you pack a thoughtful shoebox filled with gifts that will delight a child:
- A Special Item: Start with something exciting that will capture their attention—perhaps a small stuffed animal, a doll, or a toy car.
- Accessories: Hats, scarves, jewellery, or hair ties are always a hit and add a personal touch.
- Toys: Think of small, durable items like puzzles, balls, or action figures that can bring hours of fun.
- School Supplies & Creative Activities: Notebooks, pencils, markers, and craft kits can spark creativity and help children succeed in school.
- Musical Instruments: Small instruments like harmonicas or maracas can bring music into a child’s life.
- Hygiene Items: Brushes, combs, soap bars, and toothbrushes (without toothpaste) can be practical and necessary additions.
- Games: Card games, jump ropes, and small board games are perfect for group fun.
- A Personal Note: A short note from you can add a special touch. Let the child know someone across the world is thinking of them.
Items to Avoid
To ensure the safety and appropriateness of the shoeboxes, please do not include the following:
Toothpaste, sweets, lotions, or liquids
Used or damaged items
War-related toys or weapons
Seeds, gum, chocolate, or other food items
Religious or political materials
Medicines, aerosol cans, sharp objects, or fragile items
By sticking to these guidelines, we can ensure that every child receives a safe and enjoyable gift.

If you’re unable to shop for items but still want to make a difference, you can donate to support the packing and distribution of shoeboxes. A donation of £25 or more covers the cost of one filled shoebox, which will go directly to a child in need.
